A few years ago Jas and I left San Francisco for the first time and moved down to Palo Alto (a move we reversed 7 months later). When we had made the decision to leave we panicked about all the things we hadn’t been able to do and food we hadn’t consumed. So we instituted a very simple rule: every time we left the house to eat or be entertained we had to go to a place we had never been before. It was probably the most enjoyable month of dining and exploring we have ever had in the city.

Naturally enough, when we moved back we quickly fell into ruts created by time crunches, laziness, and preference. This is why we eat burritos from across the street a few times a week; they meet all of the above criteria. To smash these habits I have re-instituted the rule for August. This month we will eat only at places we have never been and see sights we have never seen. Should be fun. Care to join us?
